Cars 3 Driven to Win, a video game accompanying Disney Pixar’s upcoming film Cars 3, has been announced. The development team describes the game as a “world-class competitive racing game” that will feature more than 13 locations and over 20 characters from the movie. This includes customizable characters.
Cars 3 Driven to Win doesn’t appear to be based on the upcoming movie but instead picks up after the “final big race in the film” as Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez “prepare to take on rival racer Jackson Storm.” according to the information released so far.
Along with the previously mentioned 20 customizable characters and 13 locations from the movie, Cars 3 Driven to Win will include more than 20 tracks based on those 13 locations, six different game modes, progression mechanics, backwards driving and two-wheel driving, local co-op and more.
The title is being published by Warner Bros. and will be developed by Avalanche Software. These companies have frequently been behind licensed Disney games including Disney Infinity, Meet the Robinsons, Toy Story 3 and Cars 2. Avalanche was recently picked up by Warner Bros. after being closed by Disney after the fall of Disney Infinity. Along with the recent change came the announcement of they’d be working on a new Cars game, which we now know as Cars : Driven to Win.
The release date depends on region as of now. Cars 3 Driven to Win will be available in North America for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 on June 13th, which is the same day the movie releases. The UK release date follows a month later, on July 14th and will be exclusive to Argos retailer. It’s unknonwn at this point if the later release date and Argos retailer exclusivity for Cars 3 Driven to Win also apply to the rest of Europe.
