It’s tough to find a Forza Horizon 3 review with anything negative to say. This game is the first game in a long time that’s difficult to put down. Forza Horizon 3’s immediate beauty captures attention. The multitude of different ways to explore that breathtaking opened world puts icing on the cake. This is the racing game of all racing games. Any car enthusiast or gamer looking for a quality experience can find a good time in Forza Horizon 3.
Imagine yourself in the majestic tranquil environment of Australia. Now, imagine yourself in a Lamborghini Centenario racing along the coast or a Polaris RZR XP jumping off cliffs and dodging obstacles through the vast outback. All of this is made possible and them some in Forza Horizon 3.
Being someone unfamiliar with the Forza series, Horizon 3 is one of the most pleasant surprises of this console generation. We were actually playing a game that was immediately gripping. Unlike other titles, Forza Horizon 3 wasn’t easy to write off; it keeps calling for more attention making players want to get lost in its exceptional, exhilarating, serene, enormous world.
Forza Horizon 3 Review – Gameplay
No Forza Horizon 3 review can get around the fact that the primary focus on this title is its gameplay. Entertaining players in fun and different ways is shown through the immense amount of effort in this game. It is impossible to get bored with the amount of activities. Each activity has a different feel, objective or reward.
The players main objective is gaining popularity to make the “Horizon” event the biggest and best event yet. The primary narrative follows the player being the coordinator of this racing event and your attempts at making it massive. The gameplay backs up the narrative with grand races, will to explore, collectables and so much more. But the rest of the excitement from the title overshadows any story. Because there is so many events drawing the player into the game the story comes across forced and cheesy. Consequently, the story falls short of impressive gameplay. But the weight of that issue is trivial compared to the games gripping activities.
Something else stole our attention in addition to exciting races, cool convoys, drift zones and danger sign jumps. Drone mode is unique in ways we’ve yet to see in other racing titles as well as gaming in general. A lot of the fun laced into Forza Horizon 3 comes in exploration of the beautiful environment. Drone mode lets you explore the world in a drone. Interesting locations that you can come back for later are marked on the map while using the drone.
It’s impossible to capture every element this game has to offer in a segment of a Forza Horizon 3 review. The title is packed full of amazing value for any racing game fan.
Forza Horizon 3 Review – Customization
Forza Horizon 3 takes racing game customization to new heights. The game allows you to choose an avatar and custom name to immediately personalize your experience. It wasn’t long before vehicle customization proved to be memorizing all on its own. Just like elements of former Need for Speed games, players can customize their car and upload their designs to the community. Forza Horizon 3 gives you the opportunity to download popular designs created by other players or create your own look from scratch.
As stated above, the player is the coordinator of the event. The customization surpasses what other racing games offer. They do so by allowing players to sign music stations to their car, create custom events and choose race locations.
As you level up you will unlock new radio stations. You can choose what kind of music you like and neglect what you don’t. Players will never be forced to experience a song that they don’t enjoy. This even farther creates an enjoyable individual experience.
Players can also create their own events and upload them for others. It is fun to make your own race as well as try other events players have created. You can choose laps, weather and time of day. As you might already know, weather effects driving so you can throw your friend for a loop by making a usually sunny joyride into a stormy challenge. It is all up to you!
Forza Horizon 3 review – Visuals
No Forza horizon 3 review is complete without ravening about the games visuals. This title could be the single most visually stunning game we have ever laid eyes on. The graphical elements are to-die-for and the games setting takes breathtaking to new heights. The visually stunning world presents players with everything they could possibly ask for. There are sleek city streets, relaxing tropical drives and sandy outback terrain. The game is not just pretty to look at. The visual elements play into the way the game is played.
The vastly unique landscape provides players with different ways to play. The city of Surfers Paradise is full of tight streets for close racing while the rainforest or beach gives you something completely different. The game take place in beautiful Australia. The games setting gives the game natural beauty as well as a unique opportunity to offer different experiences based off of their location.
The visuals might be the easiest thing to brag about in a Forza Horizon 3 review but it doesn’t stop there. It’s also kind of cool to take note that small trees are destructible without complete and utter chaos. The nag of horrible spinouts can damper a racing games entire experience but Forza Horizon 3 curves that annoyance for the lesser serious player by making its beautiful environment east to explore without the hassle of needing to reset yourself.
Forza Horizon 3 Review – Multiplayer and Coop
The multiplayer elements of Forza Horizon 3 are just as noteworthy as the extremely enjoyable single player experience. If you can do it in single player than you can do it in multiplayer. Those who love single player are never forced into multiplayer elements. The game is playable cooperatively with friends online as well as having competitive events with other players.
Forza Horizon 3 has one of those multiplayer modes that steps up the game of multiplayer entirely. You can explore the massive opened world with a group of friends. This makes for a relaxed social experience that many gamers long to have. Competitive players can also get what they need from events that plot gamers against each other.
Although it is very nice to have multiplayer remain an option there is an issue that snags single player just a little if multiplayer isn’t really ‘your thing’. In the single player mode, the game highjacks names from your friends list and has those be the names hovered above AI players in races. Forza Horizon 3 doesn’t force multiplayer. But having your online friends appear in the single player portion of the game feels unnecessary and somewhat cluttered. This is a small annoyance that can easily have a blind eye towards it but was defiantly not something that enhanced our experience with the game.
Forza Horizon 3 review – Conclusion
In conclusion, this game was the breath of fresh air that this console generation was greatly lacking. This is a high quality game that impresses beyond the definition of the word. Those who like to explore or those who enjoy a good race will find a lot of enjoyment in Forza Horizon 3.
