It is a sad day when any man gets fired from a job he loves, but it is more devastating to get fired from a job that is loved without cause. A man who has become renowned due to his work on the both the Halo and Destiny and the creator of the Halo theme song has been fired from Bungie this morning.
At 1:28 AM eastern time, Marty O’Donnell announced via Twitter that Bungie’s board of directors fired him without cause on April 11th, 2014. Surprisingly this was announced five days after the event occurred which brings speculation as to whether a gag order was place on O’Donnell about disclosing this info until this morning.
Marty O’Donnell has been Bungie’s in-house composer for multiple years now and is the man responsible for Halo’s Iconic theme song. O’Donnell was one of the last employees still working at Bungie from its days prior to being purchased by Microsoft in 1999. In addition to his work on the Halo series, O’Donnell has done a ton of sound work, as well as composing music for the upcoming Destiny. Which leads us to wonder whether O’Donnell will be credited for his work on Destiny and what actually caused O’Donnell to be fired; however there is speculation that it is because of O’Donnell’s quote saying that he does not expect Destiny to be as good as Halo.
