2013 is shaping up to be a big year for gaming with many eagerly awaited titles due for release over the next few months. Here are five of the most anticipated games currently.

The latest instalment in the Call of Duty series is due out in November. The action takes place in an unrecognisable world, in which America has fallen from its rank as a global superpower. Set a decade after the collapse of the USA, the game sees a team of Special Ops soldiers battle their way through the wrecked and decayed remains of America’s West. If past COD performance is anything to go by, this is likely to be the must-have game of Christmas 2013.

Probably the most eagerly awaited upcoming release of 2013, Grand Theft Auto V is due for release in autumn. The game’s action takes in Los Santos and a host of other locations. Gamers will be able to switch between different characters, each with a different personality and characteristics. GTA V offers more vehicles than previous games from the series and developers have said that driving will feel more like a racing game than ever.
Missions will be more diverse than previously, meaning hours and hours of thrilling game play await. The flagship release of 2013 promises top the best-seller charts for many weeks. DICE’s shooter is scheduled for release in November 2013 and appears to have a lot in common with the Call of Duty franchise. The game will include an online mode where players can battle it out against other gamers. New weapons have been added, including some with several different firing modes. Players can also scope out targets on the interactive map to enable their teammates to quickly identify and eliminate them. Players can also use vehicles to get around the battlefield more quickly.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Also available on: Playstation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360
Set to hit shops in autumn, Black Flag is the newest in the Assassin’s Creed series. Gamers assume the role of Edward Kenway and the action takes place in the cities of Kingston, Nassau and Hanava. With a multi-player option, Blag Flag promises hours of gameplay. There are around 50 locations to explore, covering sea and land. Expect greater freedom than in the previous games of the series and a hugely improved ship, upgradable throughout gameplay.
Batman:Arkham Origins – Also available on: Playstation 3, Wii U, Xbox 360
Autumn sees the release of Batman: Arkham Origins, yet another eagerly awaited game of 2013. Warner Brothers took over development for this game from Rocksteady. A lot of the gameplay is anticipated to be fairly similar to existing Batman titles, but new gadgets and weapons are on offer to mix things up a bit. The gamer will have the chance to use their detective skills by solving crimes as Batman, who can now scan crime scenes with his special vision.
