E3: Super Mario 3D World, Are You Ready Meow?!

I don’t think there is a more influential, and there definitely isn’t a more iconic, gaming character than Mario. When I was a kid, every game was Mario, “Are you still playing Mario?” “No it’s super ghouls and ghosts!” “Well take out the garbage when you find the princess!”

Everybody knows Mario, but with what Nintendo has been showing us during E3 2013, it looks like we’re going to see a whole new side of him, especially in Super Mario 3D World! Take a look at the E3 trailer:

This new addition to the storied franchise looks pretty amazing, with lots of new and classic features giving a fresh twist on one of the longest running gaming franchises in history. The music is great, classic orchestral Mario, light, whimsical, and fun. the gameplay looks awesome, full 3D world, reminiscent of Mario 64, with some new tricks, clear tubes, what looks like multiplayer, I’m guessing somebody is helping from the tablet, and a brand new suit, A CAT!

I love the looks of the cat suit, its adorable, as most cats are, quick, functional, and a lot of fun. I must have replayed that video when he puts the suit on the first time and meows at least twenty times. “MEOW MEOW!” Hilarious.

The multiplayer looks pretty fun as well, with four players working together, from the same bank of lives, to make it through lush 3D environments.

And this ladies and gentlemen, is exactly why Nintendo never has to worry about the console wars. Playstation and Xbox can fight over dominance in the hardcore gaming market, but I for one know that I will always get a Nintendo System. Haven’t missed one since the SNES and I probably never will.

Because Nintendo has storied franchises built around solid gameplay, that they are constantly innovating, expanding on, and making fresh, all while being incredibly accessible and insanely fun to play. A lot of people are talking like the WiiU isn’t taking off, and it’s true, people aren’t buying it yet, but Nintendo is about games, not hardware. They roll out some crazy new hardware early, that seems gimmicky  then they throw essential titles like this, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Zelda, and Metroid at it, and all of a sudden, everybody has one. The Wii was a little different, while it was a gimmick, it was something entirely new (motion control) that hadn’t really been tackled yet, and the Wii sales didn’t REALLY take off until the WiiFit came out.

But I digress,  Super Mario 3D world looks and sounds great and I can’t wait to run around as Cat Mario…

Cat Mario, that sounds familiar… oh dear god!

^This is one of my favorite things on the internet, and I hope this influenced the decision in the Cat suit. Noicely done Breau!
