E3 2013: Ubisoft Announces Open World Shooter, The Division

What will it take to save what remains?

That’s the question that Ubisoft posed today and the answer is Tom Clancy’s The Division. The game is a third person, online open-world RPG that’s set to release on Xbox One and PS4 during fall 2014. There are no plans for a PC version.

The game takes place in the United States amongst a broken society. A pathogen able to survive on dollar bills is spread as millions of consumers spend money on Black Friday. Within 72 hours, the stock market crashes and the country descends into chaos. Meanwhile, “Directive 51” is secretly signed into order by the president. Players will take control of special task force agents who must maintain order at all costs.

The trailer shows a couple of cool features such as a 3D map of New York City and a slotting HUD. The game will also allow players to support missions from their tablet. In the trailer, we see a tablet player offer air support via a drone. The player was able to mark the target to make it easier for those on the ground to takeout the target.

Players are able to take cover, loot weapons, and acquire skill points. We saw the ability to use turrets, scan areas, and heal group members. The Division is definitely poised to cause a stir when it releases next year.
