The anticipated Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate ‘Packet Relay Tool’ and ‘Data Transfer Program’ are now available as free downloads on the Nintendo eShop. The Packet Relay Tool for Wii U allows the 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to connect and play online, though a Wii or Wii U LAN adapter is required. The Data Transfer Program for 3DS allows the exchange of saved data between the Wii U and 3DS versions and also gives users the ability to back-up and restore the data. The Data Transfer Program is not currently on the front page of the eshop, and as such may be a bit tricky to find, but it is currently listed under new arrivals and can also be searched for under ‘MH3U’.
Originally, theses apps were expected to be available during the launch of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on March 19, but for some reason were delayed. The apps seems to be running smoothly however, and while I have yet to actually use the Packet Relay Tool, the data transfer program works great with the transfer itself being fairly quick. One thing to note though about the Packet Relay Tool is that you can’t use the Wii U to play other software while the app is in use, which means no playing Monster Hunter on Wii U while you are using the app to connect your 3DS version online. You don’t need a copy of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U to play online using your 3DS copy, so as long as you have a Wii or Wii U LAN adapter to run the app and the session you are trying to join is hosted by someone who is playing on the Wii U, you are good to go and ready for the awesome online hunt-fest.
