THQ Assets Sold. RIP THQ 1989 – 2013

Sad news broke today stating that all of the THQ developers, titles, and franchises, have either been sold or cease to exist. THQ has been in trouble for about 6 months since it defaulted on a loan in November of last year. The orginal plan for THQ was to sell the entire company as a whole. Creditors did not approve of this plan and later agreed on an auction to sell individual franchises, development studios, and games.

Homefront licence: CryTek (Crysis)
Relic Entertainment (Company of Heroes and Warhammer): Sega (Total War Series)
Koch Media (S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Risen, Dead Island): Volation (Saints Row and Red Faction) and Metro
Take 2 (Grand Theft Auto, Elder Scrolls, Max Payne, NBA 2K): Evolve and WWE Licence
Ubisoft (Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy, and Far Cry): South Park and THQ Montreal

While a large majority of upcoming games will survive, many did not. The saddest news to break is that Darksiders will no longer exist. Vigil games was not bought in the various deals. With this being the saddest news to break in the gaming industry in quit some time, what will happen in the future? Will more companies cease to exist? Only time will tell at this point. Let us just hope that we will not have to suffer another gaming crash like the one in 1983.
