The Darkstalkers series has been oddly absent since Darkstalkers Chronicle, which was a PSP launch title. It was long rumored that Yoshinori Ono, the face of modern day Street Fighter, was pulling for a new entry in the beloved Darkstalkers franchise. While it may not be a brand new game, Darkstalkers Resurrection has been announced, which bundles Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 together for modern consoles.
Iron Galaxy Studios, who are behind the earlier Street Fighter Third Strike and Marvel Vs Capcom Origins ports, are packaging these two games together for release on XBLA and PSN. Like their previous fighting game ports, Iron Galaxy is stuffing this compilation with bonuses such as an in-game achievement system and an unlockable-filled vault. Players can also expect GGPO support, which when enabled helps combat lag during online matches.
Darkstalkers Resurrection will be released in early 2013 and will cost $15 or 1,200 Microsoft Moon Bucks. If this sells well, maybe we will finally see a new entry into the franchise. I always enjoyed Darkstalkers more than most other Capcom fighters, so I hope this release leads to some good news.
