It seems like the drought of Vita games is finally coming to an end. LittleBigPlanet, New Little King’s Story, and now we are beginning to see a slew of indie games being released. The Vita still has a long way to go before fully justifying a purchase, but seeing support like this gives this Vita owner a little hope.
The initial run of games that have been released include:
- Super Crate Box
- Loot the Land
- Beat Slider
- Rebel
- Aqua Kitty
- Samurai Beatdown
- Twist Pilot
- Flick Hockey
- FuelTiracas
- OMG Zombies
- Tractor Trails
- Underline
- Wordblocked
- Beats Trellis
- Hungry Giraffe
- Cubixx
- Wipe
- Nyoqix
Prices for games on this platform range from under a dollar to over $5, taking a cue from successful app stores such as those put out by Apple and Google. It may not seem like much of a competitor yet, but there is a category for Apps as well as Games, so we might see some unique stuff put out there. Just don’t hold your breathe about seeing emulators, we all know Sony has a vested interest against those kinds of activities.
Out of this list, I have played Super Crate Box and Cubixx before, and they are great games. In addition to being available on the Vita, the Playstation Mobile games can be played on select Sony devices (mostly Xperia models). Sony is also currently working with HTC to bring the store to their devices, but no word on a release just yet. When it comes to the Vita, any news is good news. Getting developer support should be Sony’s main concern with the Vita, and the Playstation Mobile platform seems like just the thing to attract smaller developers.
