NCsoft has announced that their new MMO has sold more than two million units. The new MMO has sold so well that NCsoft had stop selling digital copies on their website shortly after release. NCsoft reopened sale of digital copies this Monday, and easily surpassed the two million mark. With most MMO’s requiring a subscription to play, It comes as no surprise that Guild Wars 2 has sold so many copies. The game has a 60 dollar price tag, which gives you access to everything in the game. Gamers and critics have also been loving the new MMO, With a Metacritic score of 92 and a gamer score of 8.5.
What does this mean for the future of MMOs? Only time will tell at this point. World of Warcraft releases its long awaited Mists of Pandaria expansion pack in less than two weeks. We will see how Guild Wars 2 can compete with World of Warcraft. I believe that nothing will ever dethrone World of Warcraft, except for a new Blizzard MMO.
