Girl Gamer vs. Girl Gamer: Why the Fights Ladies?

GirlGamervsGirlGamer Featured 1

Gaming is one of the top ways people communicate outside of the ‘real world’. Everyday people are meeting others over the internet to play their favorite games together despite distance. As in real life, females tend to be a bit vexed when it comes to communicating with other females. Has anyone else noticed the instant cat fight when two random females are thrown together in the same online game?

It doesn’t matter if you place two unknown females on the same team or different, odds are they are not going to get along. Of course, every game doesn’t turn out this way and sure some girls are instant friends but there is often times an unspoken rivalry when it comes to females in the same lobby of a game. While the other players are trying to play the game normally it is pretty easy to notice a personal vendetta forming between the two females in a match, same team or not. It is an instant battle to outshine the other women, in this sense girl gamers often times try to show their dominance over the same sex more than the guys online. Have you ever sat back and wondered why these ladies can’t stand down and respect a common interest with another female?

You’re in a game lobby, it’s about to start and there are two females present; that in which have never met before in their life. The girls automatically notice one another, headset on or off. The girls will do whatever it takes to make sure they score above the other female. These will be the two people in the match that drop everything they are doing to kill and humiliate one another. They will be the most likely to be exchanging rude comments to each other via voice or private messages; most likely dishing out more harassment toward one another than the whole lobby of people can show all together. If they aren’t saying anything it is obvious that their intentions are clear via the score board.

If it’s not in-game competition that has ladies emotions in an uproar, it’s running into other girl gamers over social networking sites or other means of online communication. If a girl is claiming to be a gamer and runs into another girl gamer the respect just won’t be there. Unfortunately, it’s not a pleasing thing for some females to be around other females with a similar interest; a very sad and annoying statement but in a lot of cases it’s true. Some girl gamers have done a good job of getting popular for Cosplay or from YouTube putting themselves as a prime target for random females to pick on. Scrolling through some of these lovely ladies pages you will come across a number of different females putting in their two sense about whatever it is that the other girl has done and its usually not a positive input. Come on ladies there’s enough game for everyone and harassing other females is no way to show any sort of superiority.

Girls will gang up against each other for a few different reasons. The first reason is because they are placed in a competitive surrounding while gaming where they are most likely usually in opposition to the opposite sex. When another female is present they are no longer the only girl and they will automatically get less attention as an individual. They are used to being competitive but not shown up by the same gender. It is similar to how females act toward one another in real life but it’s not and there is a competition underway. In some sense women have a need to show dominance over other women in any aspect of their life, gaming being no different. Gaming just becomes more of an issue to most females because gaming is already competitive. When a women feels that she is going to be outshined by another women in any way she will proceed to do whatever she can to make sure that doesn’t happen. Ultimately the game becomes killing or outscoring the other female more so than completing the objective.

Girls are hard creatures to understand. Most of the time girl gamers are not accepting to other females with similar interest as them because each girl always strides to be the best. Gaming isn’t just like simply hanging out for women as it is for some guys. It’s like a battleground where both parties end up hurt and upset. Luckily every game doesn’t turn out like this; it’s just the normality among female players who react too competitive with one another. Fortunately there are many females out there that stick together and enjoy gaming as the hobby that it is, in exception to the few hundred thousand sour puss’ out there, there are still a lot of great girls out there who love gaming with other females!

I do agree that female gamers seem to notice each other in-game (even without a headset) before the guys do, but I think it’s unfair to say it’s the norm that girls:
    – seek to humiliate and best other females players
    – don’t get along with other girl gamers
    – are concerned with getting ‘less attention’ in games when other females are around.

Even if this is akin to your own experiences, this just feels like a lot of sweeping generalizations, ending with ‘ps. most people are nice’

    :/

I totally have to disagree. Not ‘all’ female gamer’s talk trash to other females. In fact ladies over at our HQ like to communicate and in a way make friends so they can join in our fun nights.

It’s a way where ladies can join together and game with other like minded females. Not every female scraps at one another.

At the end of it if I saw another female in a lobby say on COD or any other game at that matter I’d welcome them and start chatting away. If they didn’t have headset communication I’d send a little message saying “I’m also a female gamer, nice to meet you”.

All I’m saying is not all females try and beat the other female or trash talk to one another. Gaming’s a hobby and fun to do, not a thing to talk and say hateful things.

If you disagree fine but I’m totally against this article.
