It’s no secret Square Enix likes money. Who doesn’t? This has been the driving factor for them to release their games at a significant premium over most other titles available on the IOS and Android platforms. Why do they continue to put games out at these high prices? Because we buy them. I’m guilty of this, I may have just bought The World Ends With You. I just want to see a TWEWY sequel so bad…
Most of Square Enix’s releases on IOS have been ports from other systems, such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. This week we will see the release of a new Final Fantasy game that is modeled after the earlier entries of the franchise. Featuring 2d sprites and turn-based combat, nostalgic gamers will feel right at home.
Final Fantasy Dimensions will be released on August 31, and will be comprised of a prologue and a handful of episodic chapters. The prologue episode will come free with the shell, but any content after that will need to be purchased. Chapter one will be available for $2.99, while the remaining three chapters can be acquired for $9.99 a piece. Players seeking a complete bundle can purchase one for the low-low price of $28.99.
Who knows, maybe the game will be awesome. I hope it is, I haven’t enjoyed a non Tactics Final Fantasy game in years. I just don’t see the value of a game like this on mobile platforms. I’d be much more willing to pay that price it if it was released on the 3DS or the Vita. Maybe I’m just getting old.
