Below is the last trailer released for Darksiders II before the game will be released this August 14th for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. It is entitled ‘Know Death’ as we learn of his reason for the journey he takes in the campaign. The trailer finally lets us hear the voice of Death himself as well as giving us a better look at the game. With the latest trailer also comes news of the online aspect in the game and the Crucible mode. Now with the entire new aspect of loot in the game comes the question that every gamer must know… where can I find the best of it? The answer is the Crucible, which is a 100 round arena that increases in difficulty with every level. Every 5 levels you are offered an award for and if accepted you must leave the arena or you have the choice of refusing the reward in hopes of getting something better, while continuing to the next round. At any point if you fail… it is over, no reward, nothing.
The Crucible is not just an ordinary wave based arena as you must fight up to the 25th wave to even be invited to continue to the next 25 waves. This is indirectly tied to the games story as who you are invited by is a mystery to a degree. Although he shows himself, you do not truly know who he is. As you progress in the campaign, you will be invited to play further waves of the Crucible as each 25 waves are based on the four main areas of the game. As the waves change with different enemies, so does the Crucible look itself. The only way to obtain Death’s Special Legendary Abyssal Armor is to complete the Crucible, while you will obtain pieces of it after complete certain waves. You can also obtain “Death’s Mask Avatar” for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Some things are only attainable by completing all 100 waves in one sitting.
In addition to the Crucible Mode, Darksiders II also has an online aspect. First there are the Serpent Tombs which are scattered throughout the world where you can send and receive mail with friends online, while each message can have up to four items attached to it (weapons/armor), making trading rare or specific things easy. You will also receive in game messages with certain things attached to them like invitations to the crucible as well as pre-order items, along with soon to come DLC I would suspect. Along with that are tracked leaderboards worldwide. The leaderboards track a players highest combo, highest combo damage, best critical hit, total kills, equipped worth, fastest game completion, fastest nightmare difficulty completion, total game completions and lastly Crucible stat tracking.
