Over the years Pokémon has faced many controversies. Rather it be racial or sexual people find a way, to take things out of context and create a problem out of something that isn’t intended to be that way. Gaming is no stranger to controversies and Pokémon is one of the ring leaders of such subjects. These mythical creatures become a serious lifestyle for some and others have been left offended by the innocent creatures and turned their back on the series. Some Pokémon can be considered scandalous, offensive and insulting to some to say the least while others are as innocent as can be. We have done the research and have come up with the 5 most controversial Pokémon of all time. Here is a list of the top five controversies around Pokémon.
5. Heatmor
Heatmor is a 5th generation fire type Pokémon appearing in Pokémon Black and Pokémon White. When Heatmor was first spotted many people wondered what was on his crotch area. From many angles the most common conclusion is that this Pokémon has a body part that closely resembles a penis. The strange area is said to be pipes leading to its tail but many people make jokes about it because of its location between the Pokémon’s legs. Heatmor is sometimes referred to as “Duel Dick” in reference to the odd placement of the pipe. The way that the penis like area is the same color as his face and legs adds to the controversy because it is more evident and masculine. Because there is so much emphasis on the crotch area the Pokémon creates a large amount of negative attention. Heatmor’s vulgar look gets him more criticism than he deserves because the area on the Pokémon is not a penis it is just perceived that way. The controversial area is actually just part of its tail.
4. Ludicolo
Ludicolo is often criticized for appearing to be a Mexican stereotype. He is thought to be bases upon a Mexican dancer. Wearing a hat that appears to be a sombrero and dancing to Spanish style music adds to the speculation. Many fans refer to Ludicolo as the “Mexican Duck” because it appears to be a duck with Mexican qualities or attributes. The Pokémon episode “Go Go Ludicolo” features Ludicolo with an obvious Mexican character named Poncho. Poncho plays drums for Ludicolo and talks with a Spanish accent. Ludicolo and the man look very similar. Although Ludicolo does have a sombrero and dances to Spanish style music, there is nothing else that this Pokémon does to appear Mexican. There are no other Mexican Stereotypes centered on this Pokémon. Since there is no negative stereo types attached to it most people do not have a problem with it.
3. Roggenrola
Roggenrola was first introduced in Generation 5. Roggenrola is controversial because of its appearance. When glancing at the Pokémon it can appear to have the look of a vagina. It has a hole in the middle and an outer area in the shape of a woman’s part. Due to its odd look fan of the series joke about this Pokémon frequently because of its appearance, calling it the rock vagina. The hole in the center is said to be either an eye or an ear but player’s minds take that innocence far out of context. If it was not for the dark color in the center, which shows the depth, Roggenrola would receive far less off-putting attention.
2. Lopunny
Lopunny is often targeted for being overly sexy. Lopunny is considered one of the sexiest Pokémon because of its womanly body. It appears to be covering its breast with its hands in its standard position. Parents first targeted Lopunny because of that reason and feel it is suggestive to sexual content. Many fans believe that Lopunny is based after a Playboy bunny or other type model wearing fur boots and cuffs. People who are into Poképhilia, the sexual attraction to Pokémon, often use Lopunny in there fetish. Poképhiles draw pictures of Pokémon in sexual ways or performing sexual acts. Lopunny, along with Gardevoir, are the most widely used Pokémon for this attraction. All in all, Lopunny does not have breast or behave in a sexual way, as does any other Pokémon. It is just people’s imagination getting to them as well as parents uninformed beliefs to draw negative attention to video games.
1. Jynx
The controversy surrounding Jynx is well known with Pokémon fans. Early on in the Pokemon series there was a lot of controversy surrounding Jynx. Many people were offended and thought that Jynx was an African American stereotype. Jynx’s black colored face, blonde weave like hair, and full lips offended many parents and grandparents. The young children did not see anything wrong with Jynx as they saw her as just another Pokémon amongst the 150, parents saw her in a much different light. Jynx’s original black face was later changed to purple to avoid any farther confusion. Jynx was defended by many stating that she is based upon Japanese ganguro fashion style which was popular at that time but parents still felt that the serotype was being publicly expressed which forced the change in color.

Yeah, definitely NEVER thought of them that way……. Why are some people so messed up like that? X(
