E3 2012: Hands-on Far Cry 3 Preview

FarCry3

Far Cry 3 took over this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo with crazed maniac Vaas as the shows center of attention. Attendees already felt a vendetta against this sick freak and that was before they got to run through the demo on the showroom floor. Far Cry 3 is taking insanity and mixing that irrationality with a pronounced story, several game modes and a setting that off sets it all! Getting our hands on the single player mode of Far Cry 3 was one of the biggest treats of E3 2012.

The game play of Far Cry 3 was predictable. The controls were standard, the obstacle easy to maneuver however the game still stood on its own two feet. There was a feeling when playing this game that doesn’t come with every game, it was a craving to move on a need to hunt down and defeat the enemy. Having that yearning feeling mixed with the familiarity of the movements and controls seem like a first of its kind. This isn’t your average run and gun shooter, nor is it the average survival based game; this game is unique, it is original and it houses a story that players want to uncover.

What Far Cry 3 really comes down to is beautiful graphics and a great story. That isn’t to say that the game play is lacking however; because what was done with this game is an integration between first person shooter elements with an open world feel. There will be exploring that needs to be done as well as enemies that need to be shot in order to progress. This is just one of those titles that have a little something for everyone and that is why it is so widely anticipated.

Far cry 3 has so much to offer for every type of gamer. The stellar story will hook attention of many but the completely separate cooperative campaign is sure to turn a few heads as well. As you can see if you have watched the 4 player co-op trailer this game will feature a separate story for those who want to play with their friends. Far Cry 3 will have 4 player co-op but it has also remembered that not everyone wishes to experience the co-op experience online and the game will also feature split-screen for those of us who engage in real life friends. This is one of the few games that remember that split-screen co-op is just as important as online co-op. Far Cry 3 is making sure that every base is covered before the release of the game and if cooperative game play doesn’t suit your gaming needs then the competitive multiplayer mode will suit your fancy.

This game will also have a multiplayer mode like no other game has done before. In previous games multiplayer has been a hot spot but they all turn out practically the same. You have your radar in which your team mates pop up in one color and enemies in another, your weapon choices and point system; all done time and time again. What Far Cry 3 is doing differently is stripping that multiplayer way completely raw. Far Cry 3’s multiplayer mode will have it to where there is no pre given radar where your opponents appear and you can’t tell who is a friend and who is a foe unless they are marked. This is the true raw feeling of a battlefield integrated into the game. There are also going to be drugs that can be used that will both positively affect the players and negatively affect the players so beware of when they are used. The only problem we see with this multiplayer is the possibility of team killing on purpose. As you don’t know who’s on your team and who is an enemy without being marked there will be point deduction if members on the same team are killed but I can defiantly see some fool online team killing on purpose; Just a thought that should be taken into consideration. There needs to be a way to prevent online harassing from the way this multiplayer is set up.

In conclusion, Far Cry 3 is a standalone title that will feature a little something for every type of hardcore gamer. This game is already set up with a gripping storyline, separate cooperative campaign and one of the most unique sounding multiplayer modes out there. This game is going to be good and after our hands-on experience we can’t get this title out of our heads.

Far Cry 3 is set to be released on September 9th2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Excellent preview for a game I’m really excited about.. except you missed the point on the team killing.

Team killing is only activated briefly whilst experiencing the negative effects of a gas that can be released (as a perk?) it works really well as ‘paranoia’ in Max Payne 3.

You can’t just go around killing your team mates all the time it just won’t work (as is standard in today’s shooters) but the gas will make every player on the map look like evil silhouette creatures with glowing eyes who all appear as enemies regardless of their team. This i think will provide excellent strategy for defensive MP objectives.

Well written article though and aside from the mentioned only helped to build my excitement for a series I love.. just need offline non co-op deathmatches to make a return.. along with the map editor and predator powers and I’m ready to freak the f*ck out!
