Gamerbliss.com was lucky enough to get a hands-on experience of Activision’s new Skylanders Giants. Skylanders Giants is a direct sequel to 2011’s hit Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. As suggested by the title, this game features much larger characters. These characters are known as Giants.
Skylanders: Giants uses the same fundamentals of Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, meaning that to play to the full potential you must incorporate the Skylanders toy figures. Each character is in charge of a certain element which it is necessary to use different elements to get through each level. The toys are integrated into the game and the character on screen can be changed at any time during the game by placing a new toy on the Portal of Power. In Skylanders: Giants, eight new figures are introduced. These figures are twice the size of the original Skylanders, both physically and virtually.
At E3 2012, we were able to play as a few of these new characters; Cynder, Tree Rex, and Pop Fizz. Tree Rex is a life element Skylander. Tree Rex is big and slow but very strong. He is able to manipulate the soil because his soil was poisoned before he became a powerful Skylander. Cynder (series 2) is an undead element Skylander. This beautiful dragon flies fast and cares a lot about Spyro. Pop Fizz is a magic element Skylander. He has the ability to change forms after drinking the soda he holds.
Your current Skylanders toy collection is compatible with Skylanders Giants, meaning any toy you already own will work with Skylanders: Giants. Also any Skylanders with a previous level 10 cap will now be raised to level 15. Having the integration of older Skylanders in the game makes it easy for any collector to play this game; if you already have the characters why not take them on the new adventure with Skylanders: Giants?
Skylanders: Giants will be available in two forms; starter pack and booster pack. The starter pack will include the game, a portal of power, and three toy figures (Cynder, Tree Rex, and Jet-Vac). The booster pack will include just the game and Tree Rex. The starter pack is perfect for those who have not played the game yet and the booster for seasoned pros. If you do purchase the booster pack the other figures will be available to purchase individually.
At E3 2012, after playing the live demo of Skylanders: Giants select fans were given an ultra rare chrome Spyro. Only 2000 of these were made and only distributed at E3 2012. If you are able to get your hands on one of these, be sure to keep it in the box because it is likely to become very valuable. These Toys are becoming more than just a game but collector’s items and this specific Skylander is the rarest of them all.
Skylanders: Giants is set to release Fall 2012.
